Family reunification has always been a major goal for Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). To make it a priority CIC introduced a new, quick and simplified application process in Dec 2016. The purpose of this program is to cut back the wait times on such applications by up to 46%. Despite of COVID-19 slashing family sponsorship numbers by 78%, Canadian attitude is still positive towards “Reunification” of families. The categories covered under this program are:

• Spouses/Common Law/Conjugal Partners
• Dependent Children
• Children intended for Adoption
• Parents, Grand Parents and their Dependent Children
• Brothers, Sisters, Nephews, Nieces and Grandkids who are “Orphaned”, Under 18yrs of age and are/were not spouses or common law partners
• Any relatives of sponsor (living alone in Canada and has no other family member to sponsor).

Qualifications of a Sponsor:

• Must be 18years or older at the time of sponsorship
• Must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Registered Indian
• Must be residing in Canada or will reside in Canada once the sponsored lands in Canada
• Must meet all income requirements
• Must sign an undertaking to provide for basics to sponsored
