The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) is Canada’s largest independent administrative tribunal. It is responsible for making decisions on immigration and refugee matters, efficiently, fairly and in accordance with the law.

The IRB holds detention reviews, determines whether someone can stay or enter Canada through admissibility hearings, decides on refugee claims In Canada, hears and decides appeals about immigration at Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) and Refugee Appeal Division (RAD).

IAD overlooks:

• Refusal of Family Sponsorships (Spousal, Common-Law, Dependent children, Parents, and Grandparents)
• Removal Orders issued by Immigration Division (for Permanent Residents and Protected Persons)
• Loss of Permanent Status of PR due to Residency Obligations.

RAD Overlooks:

• The appeal of the failed refugee claim before Refugee Appeal Division.
