Canadas’s housing minister is proposing Cap on International students in response to Housing Affordability issue, despite being criticized by Educational Institutions nation-wide.

- Canada has seen the influx of about 800,000 students alone in the year 2022 which is 75% higher since 2017.
- They make up to 21.4% of the current yearly Immigration targets.
- Well off students individually and or collectively Invest in housing making it a considerable driver of economic growth. The average cost of homes in Canada was $163000 in the year 2000 as compared to $75000 in 2023 (460% higher).
- Gig jobs have become more prominent rather than career jobs contributing somewhat to the cause
Regardless of what gets decided amongst discussions, the government needs to have multi-pronged approach to address this issue.
